The biggest GTA 6 information drop since the launch trailer arrived on October 29, 2026, and it did not come from Rockstar's own channels. Edge magazine issue 430 leads with a 16-page cover story built from a visit to Rockstar North's Edinburgh headquarters, and it carries roughly a dozen new screenshots plus a set of mechanics nobody outside the studio had seen described before.
This is the second print exclusive of the campaign after Game Informer issue 382, and it is the more substantial of the two. Below is everything the feature and its first wave of coverage put on the record, separated from what remains unclear.
How the feature was made
Edge writer Simon Parkin travelled to Edinburgh and watched the game running live rather than playing it. Per coverage of the issue, he observed Rockstar North co-studio head Rob Nelson play for around 90 minutes, unscripted, which matches the format of the IGN session earlier this month rather than a polished vertical slice.
That matters for how you read the details. A hands-off demo driven by a studio head is still a demo Rockstar chose to give, but an unscripted one produces the kind of incidental detail a trailer never does.
The map claim that reframes everything
The headline figure: Leonida is described as nearly as large as the playable maps of Grand Theft Auto 4, Grand Theft Auto 5 and Red Dead Redemption 2 combined.
That sits awkwardly next to the two figures already on the record, Rockstar's own "roughly twice GTA 5" and the fan-estimated multiple of RDR2. We have broken down how those three comparisons can all be true at once in a separate piece on the combined-map claim, because the answer depends entirely on what you count as playable.
Alongside it, co-studio head Aaron Garbut said the game holds "an order of magnitude more interiors" than Rockstar's previous titles, and that "every back alley is as densely detailed and interesting as the others." He also said that after years of development there are still areas of the map he has not explored.
Police, pursuit and the K-9 reveal
The single clearest new mechanic is that police K-9 units take part in pursuits, a first for the series. Dogs change the shape of an on-foot escape in a way no previous GTA pursuit system could, and we have looked at the implications in our K-9 breakdown.
Other pursuit details in the feature:
- Police track your location, clothing and accomplices, so changing an outfit alone may not clear you
- Some drivers are armed and resist carjackings
- Certain vehicles carry tracking devices, making them riskier to steal
- Robberies and escapes can go off-script when bystanders intervene
All of that is consistent with the information-based wanted system described earlier in the campaign rather than a revision of it.
The Criminal Profile gets a visible scale
The Criminal Profile system was already confirmed, but Edge puts a shape on it. It runs from Professional to Irredeemable, presented with angel and devil icons, tracks behaviour across the whole game, and can change how Jason and Lucia's story resolves.
The useful nuance, consistent with what Nelson told IGN earlier in October, is that doing what a mission demands does not count against you. The profile moves when you consistently go further than the situation requires.
Jason and Lucia on a four-level scale
The pair's closeness is tracked across four relationship levels that develop with time spent together. That is the first number anyone has attached to the system, and it changes how it reads: a tracked ladder rather than a vague mood. More on that in our relationship-levels piece.
Two phone apps with names
- Scooter Bros delivers your personal vehicle to your location, with any weapons left in the trunk still aboard. Our full look at Scooter Bros covers why a named delivery service is more interesting than it sounds.
- WAINK helps you find vehicles that criminal fences are actively looking for, with vehicle condition affecting what you get paid. This fits the car theft and security tier reporting already on the site.
World design, quietly confirmed
Three long-open questions got answers:
| Question | What Edge says |
|---|---|
| Is public transport usable? | Buses and trains both work as transport |
| How long is the day/night cycle? | Significantly longer than GTA 5's |
| How wide are the roads? | Deliberately narrower streets and highways |
The road-width decision is the one worth sitting with, and we have written it up in our street-design piece.
Smaller details worth knowing
- Consumables carry buffs: coffee boosts stamina, protein shakes boost health
- Refuelling is quick and a full tank lasts a long time
- How you carry a weapon changes NPC reactions, and a gun over the shoulder alarms people less than one in your hands
- Dropping a weapon can de-escalate a situation before it becomes a wanted level
- NPC behaviour depends on temperament, aggression, district, what they witnessed, and how you treated them before
- Separate teams built the fictional brands, billboards, radio commercials, TV programming, pedestrian behaviour and political campaigns
- Rockstar says Red Dead Redemption 2 substantially influenced GTA 6's storytelling, and the two-protagonist pairing was settled on after RDR2 shipped
What the feature does not answer
Plenty, and it is worth being precise about it. There is still no official install size, no voice cast, no PC word, no announced online component, no rating, and no confirmation that the game has gone gold. Edge is a studio-sanctioned preview, not a Newswire post, and Rockstar's last official update remains the launch trailer from October 15.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Edge 430 official Rockstar information?
It is studio-sanctioned but not a Rockstar publication. Rockstar granted the access, the staff quotes are real, and the screenshots are supplied, but the framing and emphasis are Edge's. Treat the quotes as confirmed and the interpretations as journalism.
Does this mean GTA 6 has gone gold?
No. Going gold has still never been announced. A press visit this close to launch is circumstantial evidence the build is in good shape, but it is not a certification statement.
Where can I read the feature?
Issue 430 went live digitally on October 29, 2026, with the print edition following through normal distribution. The screenshots are credited to Rockstar Games, GamesRadar and Edge.
Is this the last big reveal before launch?
Unknown. With 21 days to the November 19 release and preload opening November 12, there is room for one more Newswire post, and the two-week Newswire rhythm would put the next slot around now.
The Bottom Line
Edge 430 is the most informative single piece of GTA 6 coverage of the entire campaign, and it arrived with 21 days on the clock. The map claim will dominate the conversation, but the mechanical details are the real payload: K-9 units, a visible Criminal Profile scale, four tracked relationship levels, two named phone apps, and a world built with narrower roads and a longer day. None of it contradicts what Rockstar has already said, which is itself notable. It simply fills in the gaps that a trailer cannot.
