GTA 6 has the strangest information environment of any game ever made. Rockstar has published two trailers, an Extended Look, a handful of Newswire posts and a magazine cover story, and almost nothing else. Into that vacuum has poured an enormous volume of fabricated quotes, misattributed statements and recycled headlines.
So here is a practical reference: every named person at Rockstar or Take-Two who has gone on the record about GTA 6, what they actually established, and where. Use it to check a quote before you believe it. Updated October 14, 2026, which is the day the list got considerably longer.
Rockstar development leads
Phil Hooker, development lead, described by outlets as head of development. Spoke to Bloomberg for the October 14, 2026 cover feature. On record:
- The delays were not caused by a major dramatic problem; elements did not come together inside the intended timeframe.
- Rockstar does not work to a strict development blueprint, and things were still being changed within the last few months.
- "The engine, the tools, and the team we've built during this project will allow us to do things more quickly."
- A long anecdote about losing two hours in an internal build without reaching the story mission he set out to play.
Full breakdown in our Hooker piece.
Aaron Garbut, development lead and long-serving art director. On record via Bloomberg: the 2022 leak, which exposed unfinished work, was emotionally hard on the team. Also reported as sharing Hooker's view that GTA 6's tech and workflows should speed up future projects. Profile: Aaron Garbut.
Rob Nelson, development lead. On record via Bloomberg: senior leadership and a large share of staff were pulled onto Red Dead Redemption 2, which pushed GTA 6 back by several years. Nelson has also previously gone on record about the refuelling mechanic. Profile: Rob Nelson.
Jennifer Kolbe, head of publishing. On record via Bloomberg: dismissed a rumour that GTA 6 development costs exceeded $1.5 billion. She did not give a figure. See the budget denial.
Take-Two
Strauss Zelnick, CEO of Take-Two Interactive. The most-quoted executive on GTA 6, almost always via earnings calls and financial media rather than games press. Established on record:
- GTA 6 will not be delayed again past November 19, 2026, stated repeatedly.
- The full marketing campaign began in summer 2026.
- He will not appear in the game.
- Commentary on industry pricing, which has been widely misread as GTA 6 pricing commentary. GTA 6 pricing is confirmed at $79.99 and $99.99.
Zelnick speaks for the publisher, not the studio. He has never confirmed a gameplay feature.
Rockstar as an entity
Not every official statement has a name attached, and these carry equal weight:
- Newswire posts, which are the only true primary source for dates and features. The Extended Look announcement, the preload date, the radio station reveal and the price all came this way.
- The August 26, 2026 Instagram statement on leaked footage, which included "heartbreaking for our team." This is the single most misused statement in GTA 6 coverage: it is August, it was about the August clips, and it is not a response to the October leaks. Any "Rockstar responds to the leaks" headline is this post unless a dated post-October Newswire entry exists.
- The Game Informer issue 382 cover story, which is Rockstar-sanctioned access and the source of a large share of confirmed gameplay detail. See everything confirmed in issue 382.
People who are not Rockstar sources
This is the half of the list that saves time.
| Who | Why they are not a source |
|---|---|
| Jason Schreier | A journalist, not Rockstar. His reporting is credible and well-sourced; his own posts are not Rockstar statements. |
| Insiders and leakers | Tom Henderson, NateTheHate and others report and speculate. Their track records vary and they frequently label guesses as guesses, which coverage then strips out. |
| Former Rockstar staff | John Ricchio and Dan Houser give informed outside perspective. Neither has current GTA 6 knowledge. |
| Voice actors | Cast members are under NDA and have confirmed almost nothing beyond their own involvement. |
| Platform and partner executives | Dan Clancy's remark about online timing is a third party's understanding, not a Rockstar announcement. |
| "Rockstar employee" accounts | There is no verified rank-and-file Rockstar presence talking about GTA 6 on social media. Treat all of them as fake. |
A four-question test for any GTA 6 quote
Before sharing one:
- Is there a named person? Unattributed "a Rockstar developer said" is nearly always fabricated or a mangled paraphrase.
- Is there a named outlet with a date? A real quote traces to a specific publication on a specific day. Screenshots of text with no URL are not sources.
- Does the date match the event? The August statement being passed off as an October response is the canonical example of this failure.
- Would Rockstar say this? Rockstar does not announce features in interviews, does not confirm dates outside the Newswire, and has never premiered footage at a showcase or on an earnings call.
Our wider fact-checking guides are rumours versus facts and how to verify a leak yourself.
Frequently Asked Questions
Has anyone at Rockstar confirmed a PC version?
No. No named Rockstar figure and no Newswire post has ever mentioned a GTA 6 PC release. The reported early-2027 window comes from GamesBeat citing unnamed industry sources, covered in our PC piece.
Has Rockstar confirmed GTA Online for GTA 6?
No, in any form. No name, window, structure or confirmation that it exists as a separate product. Every claim otherwise traces to a court filing reference, a datamine or a third party.
Why does Rockstar give so few interviews?
It is long-standing policy. The Bloomberg feature and the Game Informer cover story are exceptional access, both arranged close to launch. Between 2023 and mid-2026 Rockstar gave effectively none.
Is the "heartbreaking for our team" quote real?
Yes, and it is from Rockstar's Instagram on August 26, 2026, about the August leaked clips. It is routinely and wrongly recycled as a response to the October 8 and October 11 leaks, which Rockstar has not addressed.
The Bottom Line
With 36 days to launch, the complete list of named Rockstar people who have spoken substantively about GTA 6 runs to four developers and one publishing executive, almost all of them in the last 24 hours, plus a CEO who talks about dates and money rather than the game. Everything else is journalism, insider reporting, datamining or invention. Keep the list handy, because the volume of fake quotes only goes up from here.
